Overview

During a routine gas appliance service, ARH engineers identified a serious fault with the existing atmospheric boiler. A “Danger – Do Not Use” notice was issued due to spillage from the top access panel, stripped bolt threads and a failed main burner rope seal. Immediate remedial works were required to restore safe, compliant heating and hot water for staff and customers.

The challenge

The client needed an urgent boiler replacement within a live, operational branch environment. The works had to be completed safely and efficiently, without disrupting daily trade or customer access.

Our approach

ARH coordinated the works to maintain site safety and business continuity at all times.

Key steps included:

  • Safety first – engineers completed inductions, established restricted access areas and followed ARH risk assessments throughout.
  • Minimising disruption – the installation was carried out during a mix of normal and out-of-hours shifts to avoid interrupting trading.
  • Decommissioning and removal – the failed boiler and redundant kitchen water heater were safely isolated, drained and removed from site.
  • System upgrade:
    • Installed a new 35kW Ideal Logic+ wall-mounted combi boiler with horizontal flue.
    • Modified flow, return, and gas pipework to suit the new system.
    • Installed a 22mm Ideal magnetic system cleaner and new condensate drain.
    • Replaced five radiators and fitted new TRVs and lockshield valves.
    • Renewed pipework with auto air vents to prevent air locks.
    • Installed a new electrical feed and Ideal Halo wireless programmer and thermostat.
  • Commissioning and compliance – the system was filled, dosed with inhibitor, leak-tested, fully commissioned, and registered with Gas Safe and the manufacturer.

The results

  • Heating and hot water fully restored with improved system efficiency.
