Gas safety compliance works at The Bear & Ragged Staff

Reactive call-out to resolve gas safety non-compliance following an audit
Location:
Romsey
Project duration:
February 2025

Overview

Following a Gas Safe audit, ARH was called in to address a serious safety issue at a busy kitchen site. The gas supply remained active while the extract fan was off – posing a potential risk due to lack of ventilation. Our team responded swiftly to identify the faults, source parts, and return the system to full compliance.

The challenge

The extract fan was not operating when the gas supply was on, creating a risk of gas build-up and insufficient airflow. This non-compliance could have led to enforcement action, health risks, or business disruption if left unresolved. The issue was complicated by recent fan replacement work and faults within the system.

Our approach

Diagnosis and first fix – On the first visit, the engineer identified a wiring issue with the newly installed extract fan and reinstated it correctly.

Parts ordered – A new current monitor and replacement ducting were ordered, addressing additional system faults.

Follow-up work – On reattendance, we replaced the faulty current monitor and installed new ducting with added support to prevent future wear.

System service and documentation – The full extract system was serviced to ensure operational safety and efficiency. All relevant paperwork was completed to confirm compliance.

The results

  • System now safe, fully compliant, and ready for Gas Safe reinspection
  • Rapid response helped avoid kitchen downtime
  • Ongoing safe trading assured for the client
“Both the manager and head chef were very pleased with the swift response and turnaround time of the job, as well as the ability to work around a busy kitchen with minimal disruption.”
